Should there be another Nolan 'Batman' film with the Joker?

After watching The Dark Knight for a second time at the cinema, the way in which the Joker's story ended - with him simply hanging there as the SWAT prepared to arrest him - is becoming increasingly frustrating. I guess it's because the scene literally just ends, with a straight change to Harvey and Gordon.

Hopefully a scene has been left out to be used in a third film, i.e. a simple shot of him in Arkham laughing inside a cell. Just to let us know what was supposed to happen to him. The problem is the Joker is 'the' enemy of Batman, but I kind of hope he does not return for Nolan's series, as to have anyone else play Joker in another Nolan film would be hard to accept - it's like replacing Bale.

I'd prefer a quick unused shot of Ledger as the Joker in a final film, or a quick mention of what happened, i.e. a character on the news who says 'the Joker has once again escaped custody", leaving his fate mysterious.

Do you think the Joker should return? Responses are appreciated.Should there be another Nolan 'Batman' film with the Joker?
I don't think that there can be another Joker after the way Heath Ledger portrayed the character. I agree that a quick shot of him in a jail cell, or a mention of his whereabouts by another character is needed based on that last scene.
perhaps... but not in the 3rd movie. Maybe in the 5th or 6th if they go that far. It would be nice to see other villains like Riddler and Mr Freeze!Should there be another Nolan 'Batman' film with the Joker?
i figure they will wait for a while just to be respectful
you're right!

heath ledger did such a phenominal job portraying the joker, getting anyone else to play it would be such a disappointment in comparison.

i agree that they should mention him at some point in a sequel, but i dont think he should come back. give batman some new villians to fight, and dont replace ledger.Should there be another Nolan 'Batman' film with the Joker?
I don't think he should. NOBODY could top Ledger's portrayal of him and Nolan would get so much crap for replacing him.

A friend of mine told me that there was a scene where the Joker cuts himself free and falls to his death but they left it out because Heath Ledger died and they felt it would be wrong to show that.

I don't know if this is true. He couldn't remember where he heard it and I haven't heard that anywhere else...

Point is, an unused scene from The Dark Knight is a good idea. They have so many other villains they can focus on in the next films. Most comic book movies don't focus on the same villain twice because they have the same tricks and it gets old. I'm guessing they'll do something else, like Mr. Freeze or something.
The Joker has to return.

I loved Ledgers performance and I don't want to take anything away from it but the Joker is Batmans main nemisis. Throughout the comics he has returned again and again. And one thing I like about the comics is that the artist and writers always change.

Would it be hard to find an actor that could do even half the good job that Ledger did?... undoubtedly.

Will it have to be done?... YES.

Batman without the Joker would be unthinkable.

There was a story line in the Frank Miller comics where the Joker broke his own neck to hurt Batmans image.
Ive read online they are casting for the joker, so it must be coming out in the 3rd Nolan movie. They are also casting the same person for Two Face, so apparently he didnt die :-)
no.. they should leave it as it is... nobody can do better than heath.
