Who should play Batman in a film version of "The Dark Knight Returns"?

Ten years ago, Sean Connery would have been perfect, but now he's a bit too old. Who could do it, and be charismatic enough to show Batman's strength of character, powerful enough to believably kick butt, but a skilled enough actor to show Bruce Wayne's tortured psyche?



(No, I haven't heard any news of an upcoming Dark Knight production, but wouldn't it be cool? I think Dark Knight Returns is the graphic novel I've read that would convert into the best movie.)Who should play Batman in a film version of "The Dark Knight Returns"?
Here we have a question that has vexed the masses for ages.

My vote is for David Morse, most recently seen as the villain type in 16 Blocks. He has a very strong screen presence, and is of a large enough build to be able to pull off the aging Batman role.

I would also look at Peter Weller, who is in his 50's already, and still in excellent shape. See how he can still be a tough guy type in the most recent season of 24, and for a better look at him try to find the short lived series Odyssey 5.

wizard's casting call picked fred dryer (tv's Hunter) years ago, and i though he was perfect... probably too old now though...

I say bring back Michael Keaton! He was my favourite and has that slightly weird look about him making him perfect for a tortured super hero.

I don't think he's too old just yet and as you say Batman is supposed to be getting on himself in this story.

I agree that the graphic novel is wicked and would make a great film.

They should NOT do anymore live action comic book or cartoon movies.



They should follow the excellent example of the Incredibles and go full CGI.



A good script would also help.



I would prefer Kevin Conroy to do the voice. He does the best Batman I have ever heard. AND he was great in the Batman Beyond series.
